Protect the Credit Union Difference – Take Action Today 

There’s an important issue on Capitol Hill that could directly impact the way credit unions like us serve our members—and we want to make sure you’re in the know. 

As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, we do not pay federal corporate income tax on our earnings. Instead, we return those funds to our members through lower loan rates, fewer fees, and higher returns on savings—a direct benefit of our people-first, member-owned structure. 

But that benefit is at risk.
Wall Street bank lobbyists and some members of Congress are pushing to tax credit unions. That would effectively be a new tax on our members, and the more than 140 million Americans who choose credit unions as their trusted financial partner. 

This is a serious threat to our future.
By taxing not-for-profit credit unions, big banks eliminate competition, paving the way for higher fees and more profits—for them. It just doesn’t make sense to penalize members who choose the credit union difference.
